America's literacy ranking is 125/197
Today I came across an online article from World Atlas, claiming U.S.A. literacy at 125 out of 197 countries; links provided below. To be clear, the article is from 2018 and the data used to write it was published in 2016. Here's the rub for me. While I find it difficult to believe the U.S.A. is that far down the rabbit hole, I'm not completely disillusioned to the fact we have an extremely high illiteracy rate. Albeit, a large portion of the high ranking countries listed are part of the Eastern Block, which were one at one point a unified country not too long ago, I feel it akin as ranking each of our 50 states separately on this scale. I have to take the article at face value and see it as a reminder we are failing our education system.
